ABOUT DUFFERIN
Dufferin sits on the southwest hillside of Kamloops along Hillside Drive, around Mount Dufferin and the edge of Kenna Cartwright Nature Park. It was incorporated as the District of Dufferin in April 1971 and joined the City of Kamloops on May 1, 1973. Southgate, the commercial area below it, shares its MLS area.
Most homes are single-family houses on hillside streets, with some townhomes. Kenna Cartwright, established in 1996 on almost 800 hectares of Mount Dufferin, has more than 55 km of trails. Aberdeen and Pineview Valley are next door.

Contact JeremiaWhere is Dufferin?
On the southwest hillside of Kamloops along Hillside Drive, above Southgate and near Aberdeen and Pineview Valley. Downtown is about 8 to 10 minutes by car, and BC Transit route 7 serves the area.
Who lives in Dufferin?
Families who want to be near trails and an elementary school, and people who want a hillside home a short drive from downtown and the highway.
What is the lifestyle like?
Kenna Cartwright Nature Park has a trailhead on Hillside Drive past Dufferin Elementary and more than 55 km of trails. The KBRA Kids Zone is a beginner bike area, and the Tournament Capital Centre by TRU has indoor sport facilities and a pool.
What are the properties like?
Mostly single-family homes, with some townhomes. Hillside lots mean retaining walls, drainage and slope matter, so look at them as closely as the house.
Schools and services
Dufferin Elementary, kindergarten to grade 7, is on Hillside Drive. In September 2026 some Dufferin addresses moved to the new Sníne Elementary on Copperhead Drive, so confirm the elementary and secondary school for a specific address with School District 73. Shopping in Aberdeen is a short drive away, and Royal Inland Hospital is downtown.

WHAT MOST PEOPLE DO NOT THINK TO ASK
On a hillside lot, look at the retaining walls, the drainage and where the water goes in spring. The City of Kamloops Property Information Report shows whether a parcel sits in a slope hazard development permit area, so pull it for the address before you write.
Kenna Cartwright is a large natural park next door, and grassfires burned there in May and July 2025. Ask about defensible space and get an insurance quote before subject removal. I have 18 years in construction and I am not a licensed home inspector, so I will tell you when to bring one in.

REAL ESTATE INSIGHTS
Buying or selling rural property raises questions that city listings never do: wells, septic, who plows the road, what the ALR allows.
The blog takes them one at a time, in plain language, from someone who has lived on rural property since 2008.
