ABOUT SAHALI
Sahali sits on the hill south of downtown Kamloops and is split in two by the Trans-Canada Highway. Lower Sahali, below the highway, is close to Thompson Rivers University, Royal Inland Hospital and the shops along Summit Drive. Upper Sahali, above it, is larger and quieter, with cul-de-sacs, green belts and views over the Thompson valley.
Peterson Creek Nature Park runs along the east side of the neighbourhood, and the paved 1.7 km Xget'tem' Trail connects Sahali to downtown on foot or by bike. Most daily errands are a short drive or walk, which makes Sahali popular with families, TRU students and staff, and people who work at the hospital or downtown.

On the hillside south of downtown Kamloops, with the Trans-Canada Highway running through the middle. Lower Sahali sits below the highway and Upper Sahali above it. Downtown is about 5 to 10 minutes by car, and Aberdeen is next door to the west.
North Shore buyers, see Brocklehurst.
Who lives in Sahali?
Families who want schools and parks within reach, TRU students and staff, people who work at the hospital or downtown, and buyers who want a central address. Lower Sahali has more condos and townhomes, and Upper Sahali is mostly single-family homes. It does not suit anyone looking for land or a quiet country road. For that, see acreage for sale near Kamloops.
What is the lifestyle like?
Trails out the back door. Peterson Creek Nature Park runs along the east side, with trails from easy to extremely difficult, a viewpoint, a picnic area and dogs allowed off leash under control. The paved 1.7 km Xget'tem' Trail links Sahali to downtown on foot or by bike. Albert McGowan Park has a spray park, a playground and ball and soccer fields beside the Hal Rogers Centre, TRU's campus is minutes away, and Summit Drive has the groceries, restaurants and coffee.
What are the properties like?
Lower Sahali has condos and townhomes, many near TRU along McGill Road and Summit Drive, plus older single-family homes. Upper Sahali is mostly single-family homes from the 1970s onward on hillside lots, many with views, plus townhome complexes. For condos and townhomes, the strata documents matter as much as the unit.
Schools and services
Sa-Hali Secondary on Arrowstone Drive covers grades 8 to 12. Elementary schools include McGowan Park in Upper Sahali and Summit, South Sa-Hali and Beattie in Lower Sahali. Confirm the catchment for a specific address with School District 73. TRU and Royal Inland Hospital are a few minutes away, transit runs through the neighbourhood, and Sahali is on city water and sewer.

In Sahali the questions are about slope and strata. On hillside lots, look at the retaining walls, the drainage and where water goes around the house in spring. After 18 years in construction, those are the first things I look at. For condos and townhomes near TRU, read the rental bylaws and the depreciation report before you write an offer, especially if you are buying for a student or as an investment. I am not a licensed home inspector, and a qualified professional inspection is always recommended before any purchase.

REAL ESTATE INSIGHTS
Buying or selling rural property raises questions that city listings never do: wells, septic, who plows the road, what the ALR allows.
The blog takes them one at a time, in plain language, from someone who has lived on rural property since 2008.
